The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan character sketches

Character design sketches for upcoming Japanese anime series The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan.

The anime and manga is a spin-off of the Haruhi Suzumiya series. Based on the alternate universe in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya movie, the people in this world are ordinary humans instead.

The story will focus on Yuki Nagato and her high school friends and love interest, but Haruhi seems to feature a lot too.

Yuki Nagato

Yuki is a shy, introverted girl. She’s very good at math and also the president of the literature club. Has a crush on Kyon.

Haruhi x Star

Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star crossover fan art (not by me).

The school uniform is from Haruhi series; but the pose and background are from Lucky Star’s opening theme.

The characters are a combo though. It looks more like the Haruhi gangs at first glance but there are features from the Lucky folks too.

BTW, Kadokawa published both the original manga, while Kyoto Animation produced both the anime series.

Aya Hirano x Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekido

Voice actress Aya Hirano in a promotion video for Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekido, a Japanese video game for the Nintendo Wii consoles.

Released by Kadokawa in January 2009, the exercise and music game features the characters from the Haruhi Suzumiya anime and manga series.

Meanwhile, Aya Hirano is the voice actress for the titular role in the anime series. She becomes very popular after the TV show, and seems like she works in this game too. And she’s cute isn’t it?

Not sure if the game is playable outside of Japan though. They may limit this to specific region because of distribution rights.

Update: Looks like it can’t be played outside of Japan (without mods) indeed. You really have to be in Japan to experience the whole anime culture.

BTW, speaking of Kadokawa, it’s not primarily a game maker. Its main business is magazines and manga, they are the publisher of Haruhi manga series. Their famous magazines include Shonen Ace and also Newtype etc.

The Melancholy of Konata Izumi

Fan-made video for Lucky Star anime series with a Haruhi crossover.

It shows the Lucky Star characters – especially Konata Izumi – in the opening theme for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series.

The creator drew many of the footage from scratch, with reference from the original show of course. There are some minor flaws but for a fan art it’s very good, well done. Wonder how long it takes for the fan to make this though.

Speaking of which, I suddenly have the urge to watch Lucky Star again.

Haruhi is back, and K-On! is coming too

Kyoto Animation will produce an anime adaptation of K-On!

It’s originally a four-panel comic strip manga written and illustrated by Kakifly. The story is about the members of a high school light music club.

The anime series will start showing in Japan in April 2009.

Haruhi’s fans will probably feel sad as this means that the rumoured second season of Haruhi Suzumiya is not going to happen, at least not soon.

Haruhi Suzumiya 2nd Season

Update: Apparently there will be a second season for Haruhi Suzumiya. It’s not a direct sequel but an extended version of the first season.

They added 14 episodes into the first season and will show both seasons in full starting April – 28 episodes in total – same month with K-On!

I guess it’s double joy for Kyoto Animation fans then.
